Advotics Boosts Route Planning Efficiency with AWS

Digitizing Supply Chain Activities
Indonesian startup Advotics provides software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions to improve supply chain management. Companies use Advotics web-based and app-based solutions to record sales and distribution data from client visits, automate order processes, and optimize delivery schedules. They also use QR codes to track products throughout the supply chain journey for insightful metrics on process efficiency. Advotics customers include multinational companies such as oil and gas business ExxonMobil and food company Danone.
Born in the Cloud
When the startup launched in 2016, Advotics needed a cloud platform to run its SaaS solutions. Nauval Atmaja, software development manager at Advotics, says, “We had limited resources as a startup, so we chose a pay-as-you-grow cloud model for our IT.” Advotics selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) because of the breadth of its services. Atmaja continues, “There were more service options with AWS than with competitors. Integrating services could also be done in just a few mouse clicks.”
Enhanced Scheduling Efficiency
Advotics launched its SaaS solutions on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances and re-architected route generation processes to run on AWS Lambda, which allows users to run code without launching servers. The business also wrote Lambda functions to generate route scheduling to optimize the number of client visits by sales and distribution staff. It relies on AWS Lambda to build the schedules using mapping-related data stored in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and transactional data held in Amazon Aurora, a relational database service.
Atmaja says, “By going serverless with AWS Lambda, we can run computations in parallel rather than sequentially on a virtual Amazon EC2 server. We could previously generate 100 schedules in 10 to 15 minutes, but that has increased to 1,000 schedules in the same timeframe with AWS Lambda.”
Increases Store Coverage per Employee by 49%
Through route planners and improved sales and distribution management, Advotics customers have increased the number of store visits per staff member. “These employees are often traveling around a megacity like Jakarta and might not be familiar with all the areas in the city,” says Atmaja. “Our customers have seen the store coverage per employee increase by 49 percent using our SaaS route management service running on AWS.”
